Runner's High

Surrounding myself with active and ambitious people is energizing. And as I approach my 30th birthday, I reflect on how I can invest my 29 years into creating the healthiest version of myself possible.

Last week I attended a Running Club event in Brattleboro , VT. This was the second time I participated in this event and I had a lot of fun. I was excited to see so many runners attending. It looked like a miniature race and was complete with start line, registration booth, and course maps. What made the best impression on me were the people and the runners.

I met an ultra marathoner who was a giant. Glen towered over our running group and I swear the guy’s legs were the size of tree trunks. He shot out of the gate like a rocket, each stride covering 7 feet. He won the trail race in record time and afterward we talked about Lake Placid, Pisgah State Park, and other road races in VT. It was obvious Glen was passionate about running. Everyone was. You could feel the energy in the air.

I munched on an M&M cookie while spotting nearly 30 runners of all shapes, ages and sizes. I thought it neat that each of us had a choice of 3 courses to run. Suzanne and I choose the trail course.  I was impressed at how well the trail was marked with little red flags. The entire event was well coordinated for runners by runners. Everyone talked about racing, running, and I could feel the energy in the air. I’m going to chase that feeling.

My passion for running will continue into my 3rd decade and I’m excited to take on greater challenges in my life and let myself become  energized by active and ambitious people.
